God’s people had been staring at a temple foundation for years with nothing to show for it, and God answers their discouragement not with a bigger effort but with his Spirit. Across Zechariah 4 through 6 the Spirit empowers the builder, clears the land of evil, and moves out over the whole earth, ending with a high priest crowned as king in a moment that points straight to Jesus. The sermon calls the church to see itself as a work in progress that God is present in and active within.
